27 Dresses...

My next hurdle is the bridesmaid dresses.  My goal is to have a dress and exact color chosen by Christmas.  This way it still gives the gals plenty of time to purchase and do alterations.  I have girls in PA, NC, FL, NJ, & OH so we need to find something that is carried nationwide (i.e. a chain like Davids Bridal or Alfred Angelo).  I think we want a non-floor length dress, it will be June.  And the color is most definitely purple/violet, we don't have an exact shade yet though.
I'm experimenting right now.  What I did was email the following dresses numbered accordingly to each of the bridesmaids asking them what they like, hate and love about each dress.  This way I can get a feel for what they're most comfortable in.  Comments on these Dresses are appreciated!

RANT: I'm getting the "It's your day it's YOU'RE decision, it's all about YOU!" thing a lot.  I have a hard time with this.  Ultimately it's OUR day, Rudy and I, yes. (I have issues with it being 'all about the bride' too but that's another story)  But we've always been the kind of people who want everyone around us to be happy and having a great time.  I want the dear friends who I've asked to be part of this special day to be happy and comfortable and not spend too much money.  I want it to be fun for them, and not stressful and annoying.  So many times being a bridesmaid isn't fun because the bride makes it a miserable experience.  While I'm sure my girls will want to strangle me a few times over the next year, I genuinely want it to be a overall wonderful experience for them.  I asked them to stand up for me on my wedding day, how could I NOT want that for them, they're my best girls!

Back to the dresses, I really want to be able to look back in twenty years and not be completely embarrassed by what the girls wore.  I'm a very classic person, I don't go too crazy with fashion or taking risks.  I like basic, pretty and timeless kinds of clothing, nothing edgy or risky.
I'm sure these were (maybe?) awesome in their day, but now they're the second and fifth Google Images that come up when you search "Ugly Bridesmaid Dresses", not to mention they are so mortified that they have blurred out their faces as if they're on Unsolved Mysteries!  I don't want that. :)

  1. Have you considered allowing your girls to each choose their own dress in a style that is comfortable/flattering on them, but keeping the color and/or fabric the same across all dresses? You may not want to go that route, but I've seen that suggested over and over again. It can allow your girls to have a unified look, without beeing too matchy-matchy. Good luck choosing! =)

  2. OK, first off purple is the Bonavitra signature colore--so I love it!

Dress #8 is a big NO for me.

I love #3 and #1 and could evven see both being used to suit each girl's taste and figure as long as you could order in the same color.

As far as the long dresses, #7 is my fav and seems to be the most flattering.

  3. Oh yeah, I was in a December wedding years ago and had to wear a red taffeta dress, holly in my hair and a white fur muff!! Good grief.

  4. @Lauren, very good point and certainly something I'm considering if finding one is difficult. :)

@Lisa, Thanks, I think we've ruled out #8, it's more New years eve I think. Also, I think I might try out a purple taffeta dress, holly and a pink fur muff!!! haha, i remember you girls telling me about that one! :)

  5. Andrea,
I also love number 3 and I think the idea of letting the girls choose their own style is kinda neat.
